We sort the recyclate that the residents of Islay and Jura put out for kerbside collection
We work with our local authority to sort the red kerbside collection bags collected across Islay and Jura. The red collection bags are for cans, ANY PLASTIC CONTAINER and tetra packs (drink cartons often used for juice and milk, among other things).
NEWS FLASH: We can now deal with ANY type of Plastic Container – Bottles, food trays, buckets, etc. All we ask is that they are EMPTY AND RINSED OUT!!
Help us avoid rubbish
Please ensure all your recycling material is clean before putting it in the red bag. Please don’t put anything in the bags that shouldn’t go in the bags. The red bags are collected with your blue bins and taken to the Re-JIG sorting shed at Bridgend. Each bag is then sorted by hand.
If there is rubbish, food waste, liquids, then the job of sorting is made extremely unpleasant. And yet this is an important service for our local community and the wider environment.
Please consider and care for our Re-JIG sorters. Don’t put things in the red bag that should go in your rubbish bin.
You can put the following in your red bag:
- Drink cans, food cans (clean, please!)
- Plastic bottles
& containers – ALL TYPES
- Plastic bags
- Plastic packaging
- Tetra paks, which are cartons made of card with a foil lining and plastic tops
- Plastic bottle tops
- Clean tin foil
We can now also take clean polystyrene packaging (sorry but not the loose balls etc!) – just the rigid boxes or packing used for protection during transport.
We hope this is helpful. If you have any queries, please call us on 810880.
Please note, we also recycle the RED kerbside bags themselves, as well as other packaging film, plastic bags, and so on.
